Former New York Times science writer Andrew C. Revkin and SkepticalScience.com founder John Cook have won respected national climate science communications awards in the U.S. and Australia respectively.
Revkin, now senior fellow for environmental understanding at Pace University in New York, for the second time won the National Academies of Sciences? Keck Futures Initiative, this time for ?pioneering work in online environmental journalism? with DotEarth. He had won the award in 2003 in the magazine/newspaper category.
SkepticalScience.com founder and editor John Cook, in Brisbane, was awarded the country?s $10,000 2011 Eureka Prize for Advancement of Climate Change Knowledge, part of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes and described as ?the most prestigious awards in Australian science.? The prize announcement pointed to the substantial site-visitor numbers the site receives and to its having debunked more than 150 ?climate myths? in posts that have been translated into 19 different languages.
